AFGC rescue Bald Eagle

Arkansas Fish & Game Commission workers rescued a bald eagle last week. According to the Arkansas Outdoors Newsletter produced by AFGC, an Arkansas Highway department road crew spotted the eagle hanging upside down and (appearing dead) from a tree in Brookings. AFGC was contacted and a solution was devised: they would shoot the tree limb. As soon as they did that, the eagle started flapping it's wings. The eagle had been tangled by jesses, the leather straps often used by people who hunt with birds of prey or those in charge of captive eagles for use in educational programs. It's felony to hunt with the bald eagle and no one reported a captive eagle missing.

The eagle is being cared for by an experienced vet and is expected to recover.
